From communication to connection—Spring of Hope
For Spring of Hope of Ukraine, communication is more than sharing information—it is a way of helping people find support, understand their rights, and connect with services. With support from Oxfam, the organisation strengthened its communications capacity through training, new internal systems, and the development of a Communication Policy that now guides how the team engages with beneficiaries, partners, donors, media, and communities.
Kateryna, a communications specialist at Spring of Hope of Ukraine, participated in a three-day training on effective communications aimed at strengthening both external and internal communication.
"For me, this training was an opportunity to look at communication more broadly. We have a lot of important work to do, but we need to be able to show it so that people understand what has changed, what support they can get, and who is behind this work. This is where the practical tools we received during the training really helped," she shares.
The training helped the team strengthen key messages, better understand audiences and communication channels, and develop more effective ways of demonstrating impact. These lessons led to the creation of a Communication Policy and more structured internal processes, including regular coordination meetings, publication planning, and lessons-learned sessions.
As a result, the team produced more than 50 social media posts, created 18 video profiles highlighting staff members, and participated in more than 14 television and radio broadcasts, helping bring information about services and support to wider audiences.
"I see that after the training, communication has become more connected to program work. It is important for us that people do not just see a news or post, but understand where they can go, what services are available, and what is changing thanks to the team’s work. This also helps partners better see the joint result," says Tetyana Melnyk, Programme Director of Spring of Hope of Ukraine.
Today, the organisation continues building on these achievements through a mentoring programme focused on measuring communications impact and demonstrating how its work contributes to change in communities.
